Two endorsements left

There are really only two major endorsements left in the race for the Democratic nomination: John Edwards and Al Gore.

John Edwards ran a spirited campaign for working families, the underserved, and those living in poverty. His endorsement would be valuable in Ohio and even more so down the road in North Carolina. As someone who has supported John Edwards since he was my Senator while living in North Carolina, I am hopeful that he will soon endorse the only candidate capable of carrying out his message of One America.

While I haven’t always been such a huge fan of Al Gore and I enthusiastically supported his Democratic opponent Bill Bradley (who has also endorsed Obama) in 2000, I believe he has done more for our Democratic values since leaving office than he did prior in his decades of service. I never felt Al Gore was much of a progressive, and his politics reflected that assertion. But since his victorious run for President and subsequent robbery by the Supreme Court, he has brought the defining issue of our time - the world's climate change - to the forefront of American consciousness. He also has courageously spoken out in favor of marriage equality.

I believe Barack Obama has a great chance at sweeping the caucuses and primaries this weekend and possibly Tuesday as well. Combined with an endorsement from Gore, Obama would have the momentum necessary to carry Ohio and Texas, securing the nomination.

Hope is on the way!

Listening to CNN's Late Edition this morning, I must admit there is one more major endorsement out there - General Colin Powell. While a Republican, he is independent minded and has spoken highly of Barack Obama. His endorsement would be quite significant and his leadership in an Obama Administration would in invaluable to our nation.
