McCain: A liar or ignorant. Does it matter?

This week Senator John McCain either provided the world a glimpse into his ignorance even on issues of foreign policy or just continued to propagate lies, misrepresentations, and myths regarding the presence of al Qaeda in Iran and Iraq. Identical rhetoric was used five years ago by Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and George Bush for their justification to largely ignore al Qaeda in Afghanistan and instead go to war in Iraq. On first glance, it appears McCain is using a similar tactic to scare Americans into another war. However, if that was the game plan, he likely would have given the script to his supporter Joe Lieberman. Instead, Senator Lieberman of all people had to give McCain a history lesson in the middle of a press conference.

Unlike Senator Clinton, I don’t think this is that the type of “lifetime experience” we should be looking for in our next president. McCain has pandered to the far right on domestic issues, admitted to not having knowledge of economic issues, and now demonstrates his extreme ignorance on world affairs. The only endearing quality of McCain prior to this campaign was his supposed independent streak. Now McCain can lose the few independents that Senator Obama had not yet won over as well.
