The Race
Senator Obama gave yet another extraordinary address to the American people this week. While the issue of race is not easy, not politically expedient, not one that should be an issue in this presidential campaign and certainly not within our party's nomination process, it is very real and this discussion is much needed. In many ways this election cycle has transcended race, yet it is unfortunate that issues of civil rights have been widely ignored. Instead the candidates and media have far too often focused on our lowest common denominator; of late, focusing almost entirely on Barack Obama's minister, of all people. The relevance to his candidacy still escapes me. Nonetheless, Senator Obama showed why he would be such an effective president, by responding accordingly and appropriately, while challenging all Americans to be better tomorrow than we are today.
